Kerry Says Our Enemies Have "Bad Habits"

10-15-2005

A transcript of Bob Woodward's interview of John Kerry is posted today (10-15-2006) on WashingtonPost.com. As I was reading it, I was dumbstruck at one of Kerry's comments.

Kerry was speaking about how he would have planned the attack on Iraq.

"I believe that during that particular period of time you knew that they [the Taliban and al-Qaeda] had bad habits." (emphasis added)

Read the full transcript
here.

This is a good example of how many Dems view the dangers in the world.

Perhaps if we would have viewed Hitler as having "bad habits" and treated him better, he wouldn't have over-run Europe.

I shutter when I think that those with similar childish world views may soon win control of Congress.

Pope Benedict Under Fire for Comments on Islam
9-15-2006

Pope Benedict is under fire from Muslims throughout the world for recent comments he made about a book on Islam. Read the article from MyWay.com titled "The Turkish Lawmaker Compares Pope to Hitler" here.

Pope Benedict:

"The emperor (Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos) comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war...He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam:

"What he (the Pope) has done is that he has quoted very offensive remarks by some emperor hundreds of years ago...It is not helpful (because) we have been trying to bridge the gap, calling for dialogue and understanding between religions."

Aslam added that Muslims have a history of tolerance. She noted that when Spain drove out the Jewish population in 1492 AD they were welcomed by Muslim nations.

What Aslam left out was that in the same year (1492 AD) Ferdinand and Isabella re-conquered Spain from the Muslims who had invaded and conquered Spain in 711 AD. Read about it
here. (Paul Halsall, "Medieval Sourcebook: Ibn Abd-el-Hakem: The Islamic Conquest of Spain", on Fordham.edu.)

Furthermore, Aslam left out the fate of non-Muslims (including Jews and Christians) during Muslim rule of Spain from 711 AD to 1492 AD. During most of Muslim rule, non-Muslims were allowed to worship, but were severely limited.

According to Warren H. Carroll, Ph.D., among other limitations:

"...from the time of Muhammad to the early twentieth century, the conversion of any person from Islam to Christianity was absolutely forbidden and punished by death. (In many recorded instances this punishment was relentlessly carried out.) Every Muslim and all his descendants were regarded as legally bound forever to Islam."

Read Dr. Carroll's paper
here titled "What Was the Standard Policy of Muslim States in Spain toward Christians?"

The article further expands on the full extent of religious and other limitations on non-Muslims.

Meanwhile, Pope Benedict has clarified his comments. Read the BBC News story titled "Pope 'meant no offence' to Islam"
here.

Michelle Malkin has more on this. Read her post titled "I support the Pope"

Bush Will Not Support The Republican Opposing Lieberman (8-15-2006)

Tony Snow, Presidential Press Secretary: "We are not making any endorsement in Connecticut. The Republican party of Connecticut has suggested that we not make an endorsement in that race and so we're not." Read the story about that here.

A Republican President not endorsing a Republican candidate rarely happens. In this case, George Bush put the welfare of the country above partisan politics. Sen. Joe Lieberman understands the terrorist threat and supports the President's policies on national defense.

That is why I am a supporter of George Bush.

It is sad that a good man like Joe Lieberman did not get the Dem nod in the primary. He will be running in the general election as an independent.

It seems clear that the Dem party has been hijacked by the radical left. I shudder when I think that Nancy Pelosi may end up as Speaker of the House - third in line to be President.

Bush, Faith and Politics  8/1/2006

Karen Armstrong, Monday July 31, 2006, in The Guardian foolishly attempted to link George Bush's Christian beliefs and his faith with the many problems at home and overseas. Read her article titled "Bush's fondness for fundamentalism is courting disaster at home and abroad" here.

Armstrong sees a major part of the problem as a struggle between faith and science. She points to Thomas H Huxley, an advocate for the Origin of Species who concluded :

"One or the other (faith or science) would have to succumb after a struggle of unknown duration."

As to the Bible believing Christians wanting Intelligent Design taught in schools, Armstrong exclaims, like Huxley:

"The issue splits the nation down the middle: fundamentalists want to win a battle for God; liberals and secularists are fighting for truth and rationality."

(As Jesus said: "What is truth?")

Armstrong sees George Bush's Christian views "courting disaster" in the world.

She attacks the President for banning federal funding of stem cell research:

Bush: "This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others... It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect."

Armstrong even charges the President is ignoring civilian deaths in Lebanon because of his belief in the "end times" and Bible eschatology. She argues that fundamentalist Christians, like Bush believe: "Christ cannot return, however, unless, in fulfillment of biblical prophecy, the Jews are in possession of the Holy Land. (Does Armstrong know that Jesus said that no one knows the time when He will return?)

Her ramblings on George Bush's faith go on and on to even include his failure to sign the Kyoto treaty. Armstrong argues: why would Bush care about global warming "If the world is about to end?" (How about if Bush signs it, the US economy suffers? How about, many scientists don't believe in global warming?)

Liberals and secularists, like Armstrong, have a worldview that lacks faith. So sad - and irrational. Isn't it irrational to believe that our world could come into existence and be so beautiful through mere chance? Their lack of knowledge of the Bible also feeds their irrationality.

I know. After accepting Christ I saw things very differently. Call me a fundamental Christian if you wish, but I call myself a Christian who believes the Bible and Jesus.

The truth is that George Bush, his faith or his politics will never be understood by the secularists until they stop being secularists. I will pray for Ms. Armstrong and other secularists.

Iraq Documents Prove Bush Was Right

Captain Ed of Captain's Quarters is analyzing the documents and media captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. These documents and media can be found at a website created by the US Army Foreign Military Studies Office at the request of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Click here to view this website.

One of the Captain's posts dated July 7, 2006 and titled
Iraqi Documents: UNMOVIC Knew Of Renewed WMD Efforts (Updated And Bumped) is particularly interesting. It is about document CMPC-2003-003766.

I find the following snippets from the Captain's post very significant.

The Captain: "In a summary of a larger document, the translators found that Iraq had restarted its processing of castor-bean extraction, from which ricin can be developed -- and that UNMOVIC discovered it in December 2002."

From document
CMPC-2003-003766 (P81): "Ricin toxin is found in the bean of the castor plant. UNMOVIC inspections since December 2002 have verified that the bombed caster oil extraction plant at Fallujah III has been reconstructed on a larger scale."

The Captain:
"Once again, it looks like Saddam's own documentation makes it clear that he had never stopped working on WMD programs. This time, it also shows that UNMOVIC and the UNSC knew it."

The Captain: "UPDATE and BUMP: Hans Blix never mentioned ricin or castor beans in his
UN presentation on March 7, 2003. In fact, it never even mentions the word "violation" once."

These revelations make it clear that the President made the correct decision about invading Iraq. It is outrageous and beyond sad that the UN, the MSM and liberal Dems will never admit that George Bush and the Republicans were right.

The Dems may have a big surprise in November when they find themselves again the minority party in Congress.

Jesus: Off The Wall?  7/8/2006

Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the West Virginia ACLU sued to have a picture of Jesus removed from a high school. The picture hung in the school for more than 30 years. Read the full story here.

Says Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United:

"I frankly cannot understand why this school insists that it is doing nothing wrong...This is pretty clear constitutional law. Public schools cannot promote specific religious ideas."

Hello. The Constitution is clear.

Amendment I

Congress (bold italics added) shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof;...

The painting of Jesus was approved by a local school board, not Congress.

A side note - How does hanging a picture of Jesus establish a religion anyway? When I was a substitute teacher I saw many pictures hanging on the walls of the schools I was in of Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses These Gods and Goddesses are worshiped today in many pagan religions. Read about this
here.

Where is the outrage from groups like the Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the ACLU about this?

Lowell Ponte wrote in FrontPageMagazine.com (October 27, 1999): "Oddly, ACLU lawyers do not object to these pagan religion practices on public property or with public money." Read his in-depth article
here.

UPDATE (7/8/2006) - Reader Underdog made a "super" comment to this post that is "right on".

"Apparently, Jesus is not the only great offensive truth today, but America itself is somehow inherently bad. The ACLU and similar backwards organizations are attacking anything that is right and true. This promotion of falsehood is prevalent throughout our society. My favorite latest example is seen in the Superman movie. Whereas Superman use to stand for something, "Truth, Justice and the American Way" to be precise, now he's aimlessly based on "Truth, Justice and all that Stuff". This minor change of Superman's motto in the latest film shows that America is too offensive, and only something as meaningless as "that stuff" is acceptable. This is nothing but pure absurdity. In spite of the direction of our culture, there is Truth, there is meaning, and there is Eternity in life. There's good and there's evil. Why pursue a false middle gound? Everyone has to decide which side they are on."

A 4th of July Tribute to Our Flag

7/4/2006

"In this grand and glorious banner, I see in the blue the blue of Heaven, in the stars, God's promise to Abraham, 'Your progeny will be as numerous as the stars of the Heavens' and the never-ending blessing that God is still on His throne! I see in the red stripes that the blood of Jesus Christ was shed for me, and with Paul, stand firm in the knowledge that 'By His stripes we are healed'. In the white, the purity of the babe of Bethlehem, Who became my Lord and Savior, the ultimate fulfillment of all the line of ancient Prophets, the pure Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the universe."

Saddam Hussein’s Death Sentence – How Will It Affect the Election?

Just two days before the 2006 US election, Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging. Saddam had been found guilty of ordering the 1982 executions of 148 males in the Iraq town of Dujail in retribution for a failed assassin attempt.

Read the full CNN story
here.

The Dujail executions were not an isolated case of Saddam’s brutality. In 1996, Human Rights Watch reported on other atrocities:

"The Iraqi government continued to engage in a broad array of human rights violations, including mass arrests, torture, summary executions, 'disappearances,' and forced relocations."

Read the full report
here.

The reaction from the Iraq government and the White House was swift.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki:

"The Saddam Hussein era is in the past now, as was the era of Hitler and Mussolini… (he was) the worst ruler ever in Iraq."

White House spokesman Tony Snow:

"It demonstrates that you've got an independent Iraqi judiciary and that they were applying their own laws".

But before the news sunk in, political observers were accusing the Bush administration of pushing for a verdict now – just in time to affect the election.

Snow was interviewed on Fox News this morning and dismissed the accusations as "idiotic".

Whatever the motivations, the Saddam verdict may be the "November Surprise" that tips the political balance in favor of the GOP.

Although most polls show the Democrats ahead in the race for the control of Congress, several key Senate contests will determine the outcome in that chamber. Races in Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia and Montana are considered "toss-ups". Even in the Democrat stronghold Maryland, Republican Lt. Governor Michael Steele has pulled up even with his Democrat opponent.

Few loyal Democrats may be swayed, but the all important independent voter, now leaning toward Democrat candidates, may take another look at the Republicans, now that the war in Iraq has produced some solid results.

One thing is for sure - Democrat and Republican leaders will both be nervously watching the polls the next two days.

October Surprise - Kerry Gaff

If John Kerry doesn't wake up the Republican base, nobody can.

His latest quote: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Republicans responded sharply:

Sen. John McCain: "The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq is an insult to every soldier serving in combat today."

House Speaker Dennis Hastert: "Our soldiers risk their lives in the face of grave dangers on the battlefield, and no one who chooses to courageously and selflessly defend our country can be considered 'uneducated.'"

Kerry tried to explain that the comment was "a botched joke" and then for good measure called Republicans "assorted right-wing nut jobs."

I doubt Kerry was trying to tell a joke. I think he had a "senior moment" and thought he was back protesting the Vietnam War when there still was a draft. Republicans can only hope that Kerry keeps talking until Election Day.

Read the Fox News story about this titled "Kerry Reloads in Dogfight Over Snipe at Troops in Iraq"
here.

UPDATE -
The National Commander of The American Legion Paul A. Morin speaks out:

"As a constituent of Senator Kerry's I am disappointed. As leader of The American Legion, I am outraged...A generation ago, Sen. Kerry slandered his comrades in Vietnam by saying that they were rapists and murderers. It wasn't true then and his warped view of today's heroes isn't true now." Read the full story

Ouch!

Where Are The Democrats Hiding?

I was talking to a friend the other day and he asked me what happened to Howard Dean. I thought about it for a while, scratched my head and said, "I don't know". In the past, I could always depend on Howard as a subject for a blog post by searching for his latest quote. But then, I didn't recall any outrageous quotes lately from Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer or even Nancy Pelosi.

Where or why are the Democrats hiding?

There is an interesting article titled "The Non-Contract With America" in the Wall Street Journal Opinion page Saturday that may answer that question. According to the WSJ, it's the Democrat strategy to not offer any substantive new programs before the election - just the opposite of the 10 point "Contract With America" that Newt Gingrich and the Republicans offered that swept them into control of Congress in 1992. Read the full article
here. The idea is to keep the focus on the Republicans, who right how are not very popular. In other words, the Democrats smell victory and are sitting back and just waiting - not wanting to make any mistakes. Sounds smart doesn't it?

I don't think so. Many see the greatest Democrat weakness as their constant complaining and negativism while never offering any suggestions to improve things. For example, Rush Limbaugh dubbed Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid “Dingy Harry”. George Bush even brought that up again recently while he was on the stump, as he accused the Democrats of complaining while having no programs.

So what are the Democrats doing? They are playing into their own weakness. As they sit on their hands, in a defensive position, Republicans can pound away at them as the party that has no plans. This raises even more doubts in the collective minds of the electorate about the ability of the Democrats to lead. People admire strong leaders. Bush advisor Karl Rove must be smacking his lips.

Smart politicians play into their opponent’s weakness. For example, if your opponent is known for raising taxes, the focus of your campaign would be showing the voters how you will cut taxes. Richard Nixon was a master at this tactic. You never need to directly attack your opponent, but the voters get the idea anyway.

With only a few days left before the election, it will be interesting to see if Republicans are able to successfully take advantage of the Democrat “do nothing” strategy and keep control of Congress.

Will Voters "Remember" 9-11 and Vote for Republicans?

Americans favor Democrats on most issues, save one, and that issue may be the determining factor in the upcoming election. In a 10-26-2006 Fox News poll, 43-35 percent of voters preferred Republicans to Democrats on the question of which party would handle terrorism better. I believe that too.

My life, and the life of most Americans, changed dramatically after 9-11-2001. I remember so well where I was when the World Trade Towers in New York came down and the Pentagon was hit.

I remember the helpless feeling I had when my wife and I sat in our car next to the interstate outside Atlanta, GA, listening to the radio, trying to decide what to do or where to go - our vacation plans in shambles.

I remember calling my son in the Chicago area on the cell phone and the relief I felt when he answered. At that time I didn't know exactly what was happening and fear gripped me as I thought about other terrorist attacks that might occur.

I also remember the President standing in the rubble at "Ground Zero" in New York City with his arm on the shoulder of an elderly fireman. As the President was speaking, someone in the crowd called out "We can't hear you". President Bush picked up a bullhorn and shouted out:

"I can hear you, the rest of the world can hear you and the people who knocked these buildings
down will hear all of us soon."

I wept, because I knew that what he said was true. For the first time since the buildings came down, I felt some peace. I thought:

"Thank God that George Bush won the election."

Then the terrorist "heard" from us and there have been no terrorist attacks on American soil since 9-11.

If Americans in the privacy of the voting booth "remember", and I think they will, Republicans will hold Congress.

Will the GOP Base Come Back?

Based on earlier polling, most political pundits predicted a Democrat sweep in the upcoming elections that would put them back in control of Congress. However, more recent polls have shown a tightening of key races as in Missouri, Tennessee, Maryland and New Jersey. But this week, an important court decision may make the election closer – and may even tip the scales in favor of the GOP.

The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that same-sex couples should have the same rights as married heterosexuals. However, the court stopped short of ordering that gay couples can marry under current statues. Under the ruling, the legislature has six months to re-write the law to either provide for civil unions for gays or allow them to marry.

Many commentators are saying that this ruling may be a gift to Republican candidates, who have watched their political base erode over the Foley scandal. It seems likely that the base, dominated by conservative Christians, will return to the GOP.

Same-sex marriage, which is generally opposed by Republicans, is a hot-button issue to the religious right that undoubtedly will trump unhappiness with a former congressman who strayed from the GOP family-friendly ranch.

If the GOP base turns out in big numbers this election as some are saying (or hoping) , Republicans have a very good chance of holding Congress.

One Night With The King and Kingdom Advancing

My wife and I went to see One Night With The King and loved it. The story of Queen Esther illuminates the reason for the current crisis in Iran and should be seen by all.

I was searching for comments about this movie today and found a post that mentioned One Night With The King. Although the movie was only mentioned briefly, I was impressed by the author's very good summary of the moral decline in the US. Also, he made a great call for the advancement of God's Kingdom. Read the post titled "Fighting Back"
here on Kingdom Advancing

I hope and pray that more will find
Kingdom Advancing - and go see One Night With The King.

The Supreme Court upheld the Oregon law authorizing suicides by a 6-3 vote. Roberts, Scalia and Thomas were in the minority.

"We are disappointed at the decision. The president remains fully committed to building a culture of life ... that is built on valuing life at all stages," Scott McClellan said.

Scalia said in his dissent: "If the term 'legitimate medical purpose' has any meaning, it surely excludes the prescription of drugs to produce death."

One step further from our Biblical moorings. I will have more to say about this later.

Whom Do You Fear?

I've heard arguments made that compare Christian leaders like Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham with religious zealots like the Taliban because of statements they've made. For example, Wayne Madsen alludes to this argument in an article I found in the Viewpoint section of The Pantagraph today titled Islam Not Alone As Religion Harboring Radical Zealots. Madsen attacks both Robertson and Graham for their statements. I could go into an extensive defense of these statements, but that is not the purpose of this post.

I have
"
Googled" out the facts when unfounded attacks from the radical left come, like Madsen's, and most always have found that the true story has been twisted to fit their sick arguments.

One close family member of mine was teeing off on Pat Robertson one day. I asked her if she ever heard of
Operation Blessing headed by Rev. Robertson. She looked puzzled when I told her about the worldwide outreach they have, which includes providing food, clothing, medical care, disaster relief and yes, love, to the disadvantaged regardless of their faith.

Once, I was discussing Pat Robertson with a minister friend, and it was obvious he was no fan. I asked him how he formed his opinion of Dr. Robertson. He said that he had read about him in a summary sent to him by some organization that he didn't name. I asked him if he ever watched the
700 Club or actually listened to what Pat said. He said that he never had.

How many know that Franklin Graham heads
Samaritan's Purse? How many know that Samaritan's Purse provides medical care, shelter and emergency relief throughout the world for the poor, including in Muslim countries? How many have heard or seen more than a 20 second clip or sound bite to judge the man? How many have read Franklin Graham's book Rebel With A Cause?  (See book Recommendations)

My Grandmother used to say that "The proof is in pudding". It other words, judge people by what they do.

I see conservative Christians, like Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham, really helping and loving those that can't help themselves. Yes, shame on them, I also see them passing out Bibles, praying for people and telling people about the Gospel and the love of Jesus.

Whom do you fear? Those that fly planes into buildings filled with innocent people, or those that head organizations that reach out into the world to help and love the innocent?

Special Tree?

There is much talk these days about the frontal attack on Christmas in all forms. The wild eyed libs led by the ACLU have intimidated cities and towns to rename "Christmas" trees as "Holiday" trees, school boards to replace "Christmas" Carols with "Holiday" songs like Frosty The Snowman, and stores to replace advertising and even greetings to their customers from "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays".

My wife and I are fighting back. We are not going to buy presents this year from stores who have shucked Christmas. We even made a recent decision to buy a new washer based on store loyalty to "Christmas".

But then I got thinking. If the Christmas naysayers have their way and blot out Christmas from the public square, they will surely turn elsewhere in their crusade against God. Like the dog chasing it's own tail, the anti-Christmas grinches may turn on the word "Holiday" itself.

Just consider this. Where does the word come from and what does it mean?

I found the following explanation of the origination of the word "Holiday" at
Reference.com. Holiday is: "...Based on the English words holy and day, holidays originally represented special days of the Christian Church calendar." (emphasis added)

Surely the ACLU will eventually figure this out and an attack on the "Holiday Tree" and everything else "Holiday" will start with the same gusto as the attack on "Christmas". "Holiday", i.e. Holy Day, will have to go.

Special Tree? Special Song? Happy Special Days?

SCOTUS and The 10 Commandments

In two decisions today, the Supreme Court seemed to say that the display of the 10 Commandments "in" a courthouse is not OK, but a historical display "outside" a government building is OK.

Muddying the water, they also said that a display in a courtroom (like the one in the Supreme Court Courtroom) is not necessarily unconstitutional. Each display demands "scrutiny to determine whether it goes too far in amounting to a governmental promotion of religion". Read the full story here.

It looks like the ACLU will have fun with these decisions for years - unless President Bush is able to appoint some Supreme Court justices who will stick to the constitution and not make law and the people will elect Senators who will not filibuster the appointments.

Michelle Malkin has an excellent summary of the reactions to the decisions that is worth reading titled SCOTUS WATCH: 10 COMMANDMENTS.

Wake up America - Support Our American Carmakers!

It's very disturbing news that General Motors and Ford, the only two remaining major American owned auto companies, are having financial troubles.

A Detroit News story reports that: "The debt of General Motors and Ford Motor Co. was lowered to "junk status" Thursday as one of the nation's top credit rating agencies said the management strategies at both firms are insufficient to counter mounting challenges and surging rivals." Read the full story
here.

One factor in the American automaker's woes is that Americans more and more are choosing vehicles made by foreign automakers - especially Japanese manufacturers.

Another Detroit News story titled
Big 3 market share dips to all-time low spells out the decline of US automakers at the expense of Asian automakers.

It puzzles and upsets me that many American buyers are not supporting American automakers. My wife and I have decided to only buy cars made by American companies - GM to be exact. It only makes sense. Why? What are the implications?

First and most obvious is that in the event of war, we need to have American manufacturing capability. What would have happened in World War Two if GM and Ford hadn't existed? Do you think we could have bought our military tanks, trucks, jeeps and other military vehicles from Japan or Germany? (For you high school seniors - Germany and Japan were our enemies in World War Two).

Second, thousands of Americans work for GM and Ford and millions own their stock and bonds. Why would we not want to help American families and investors? How many American widows hold GM and Ford bonds and depend on the income from these investments for their survival? How many families of former GM and Ford workers are struggling today because the breadwinner was laid off because of slumping cars sales?

Wake up America. Support our American carmakers before they are gone and it's too late.

(For the sake of full disclosure, I own a small amount of GM stock.)

Terri Schiavo - What Next?

A recent post by Dory on BlogsforTerri titled "Let's Stand on Common Ground and Save Some Lives" makes a lot of sense.

"In a
previous post I brought out how support for saving Terri's life is coming from both sides of the political spectrum. To some this is an issue of discrimination against the disabled, as an able person in Terri's general state of health would never have been a candidate for such treatment. To others the issue is the intrinsic value of human life as the image-bearer of God, and man having no authority from God to take it under these circumstances.
What I see here is the basis for some real cooperation between these two groups. If we can manage to work together, we can save some lives. What we agree on is that sustenance and medical care ought not be withheld from people because they are disabled and because they cannot speak for themselves."...

This is how I responded to Dory's post:

"While I am pro-life, what you suggest makes a lot of sense. What is happening to Terri and others like her make no sense. Count me in. I offer free email advice (subject to my own ability to respond) to anyone wanting to run for political office. Also, there is much informtion at my site to help those who want to get elected. I will also be adding more information related to saving the lives of the disabled. If anyone wants to make a suggestion to improve my site to this end, I am open to suggestions.

And the Crowd Said: "Crucify"

Terri Schiavo's life is now in the hands of the Supreme Court. In the meantime, Terri's life is slowly slipping away. She is being starved to serve "justice". However, she has committed no crime.

Several recent polls say that a majority of Americans believe that starving Terri is OK. God help us.

For the past few days all I have been blogging about is Terri. I can't get her or this terrible situation out of my mind. It seems to me to be a simple case. Terri is alive; she is awake; she should live.

I can't even agree with the argument that it would be OK to starve Terri if she wanted to die. Isn't assisted suicide against the law in almost all states?

However, it is not clear to me that Terri would want this to happen to her. Her husband says she told him she would not want to be kept alive on life support. Did she mean that she wanted to be starved while she was awake? I can't believe she would say that.

Several nurses have come forward and have told disturbing stories about Terri's husband. They have also said that Terri is very much aware of what is going on around her. A Neurologist from the Mayo Clinic and other Doctors say that Terri has been misdiagnosed.

How could a reasonable person looking at this case not conclude that Terri should not be starved? Last night on Hannity and Colmes, Terri's father called what is being done to Terri murder. Isn’t murder against the law? Isn’t this a "Solomon’s choice"?

Will this madness spread and feeding tubes begin to be pulled from patients in long-term care facilities all over the country when their guardians "move on with their life"? Some argue that things like this happen every day. People are murdered every day also. Does that make murder right?

I have heard the legal arguments about Terri’s case and I get sick listening to the logic being applied.

It is clear. The final appeal must now be made to God. Only He can save her. Jesus said: "Father, if it is your will remove this cup from me". I pray this prayer for Terri.

Ironically, the chances are good that Terri will die as Jesus did, on Good Friday.

The polls have been taken and the crowd is still calling: "Crucify!".

Betting Against Bush

Possible 2008 Republican presidential candidates are positioning for the nomination and several senators are attempting to differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack. The Washington Times reports in it's article titled GOP hopefuls for '08 breaking from Bush that one common thread running throughout the positioning of the candidates is that they are not George W. Bush.

It seems they are betting that Bush's popularity will remain low up to the time of the primaries. This could back-fire.

Public opinion can go up and down like the tide. George H and George W Bush have had their public opinion numbers go up and down with world events. The father was very high after the first invasion of Iraq and fell dramatically because of a tax increase before he lost to Bill Clinton. The son was at lofty levels of support after the 9-11 attack and has fallen to the low 40s now.

World events will dictate who is the Republican candidate in 2008. It might be too early for possible candidates to stake a position for or against the President. Time will tell
.

Supreme Court: Suicide OK.

Go "Walk the Line"

The Globes got it right on this one. Walk the Line about Johnny and June Carter Cash won the Golden Globe for best musical or comedy film Monday and earned acting honors for stars
Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

This is the very best. I recommend you "Walk the Line" to your movie theatre and see this one.

Al Gore Rises Again?

There he goes again.

Al Gore about the President's wiretap program: "A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government."

Al Gore is in a time warp. He still thinks it's the 2000 election. John Kerry still thinks it's 2004.

Hello. It's 2006, and guess what? George W. Bush is President. He won. I repeat. He won and he is President - thank God.

In spite of the constant attacks on the President, one facts remains - George W. Bush is a good Godly man. He speaks simply. He does what he says and he acts.

Republican Party spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt summed up Gore's recent tirade best: (Gore's) "incessant need to insert himself in the headline of the day is almost as glaring as his lack of understanding of the threats facing America."

Alito to Move Up

It looks like Judge Alito will get a promotion to the Supreme Court in spite of the abuse he took last week in the Senate judiciary committee hearing by Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin. Read the AP story here about that.

Chalk up another victory up for George W. Bush as he continues to make his mark on history.

In Search of "Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild"

I went into my local large chain store bookstore today looking for Michelle Malkin's new book, Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild. First, I looked up front where they put New Releases, Best Sellers and Associate Recommendations.

Nope, not there.

Then I went on a hunt through the rest of the store, finally finding it at the back in the Current Events section, but at no discount.

I almost became "unhinged" myself, since the liberal, hate Bush books were prominently displayed at the front of the store, most with discounts.

I took Unhinged off the shelf and marched to the Information Counter and asked to speak to the manager. When he came over, I expressed my displeasure. His explanations were limp - mainly: "It's beyond my control." I'm not buying it. His excuses or the book at his store.

FYI, Unhinged is available at Amazon.com at a nice 34% discount. (see below to order)

I'll let you know what I think of the book as soon as I get mine.

Sen. John McCain: "I think it's a lie to say that the President lied to the American people."

Sen. John McCain appeared on CBS News' Face The Nation today. During the exchange with Bob Schieffer, Sen. McCain forcefully attacked the premise that the President lied to the American people.

Sen. McCain's defense of the President is very important since he is respected on both sides of the aisle and is known for his plain talking truthful style.

An excerpt of this exchange follows. (emphasis added)

SCHIEFFER: President Bush accused his critics of rewriting history last week.

Sen. McCAIN: Yeah.

SCHIEFFER: And in--he said in doing so, the criticisms they were making of his war policy was endangering our troops in Iraq. Do you believe it is unpatriotic to criticize the Iraq policy?

Sen. McCAIN: No, I think it's a very legitimate aspect of American life to criticize and to disagree and to debate. But I want to say I think it's a lie to say that the President lied to the American people.

I sat on the Robb-Silverman Commission. I saw many, many analysts that came before that committee. I asked everyone of them--I said, `Did--were you ever pressured politically or any other way to change your analysis of the situation as you saw?' Every one of them said no. Now was there a colossal intelligence failure? Of course, there was. Is there still a lot of things that need to be done to improve that? Are we winning the war on terror? I think it depends on your parameters. But to assert that the President intentionally lied to the American people is just wrong.

And could I finally say, every intelligence agency in the world, including the Russian, including the French, including the Israeli, all had--reached the same conclusion, and that was that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. So I think open, honest disagreement, more discussion, more debate, the more facts that come out, the better off we are, but I would not accept the premise the President lied.
